World Cup 2026 Houston: Where to Stay Near NRG Stadium
Stay near NRG Stadium in the Museum District or Downtown Houston, Texas, USA
Staying in Houston, USA
If you are figuring out World Cup 2026 Houston: where to stay, you need to factor in two things: the METRORail and the summer heat. I walked from the NRG Park station to the stadium gates back in 2014 for a friendly, and even in the evening, that Texas humidity hits you like a wall. You want to minimize your time outside before kickoff.
The smartest play is booking a room along the METRORail Red Line. Downtown Houston gives you the classic skyscraper hotel experience and puts you 20 minutes from the stadium. But if you want a bit more local flavor, look at the Museum District or Montrose. You get tree-lined streets, excellent breakfast tacos at places like Tacos Tierra Caliente, and a much shorter train ride.
Here is what you should keep in mind when booking your Houston base:
- Medical Center hotels are the closest. You can find rooms starting around $90 a night, and the train ride is barely 5 minutes.
- Avoid relying on rideshares right after the final whistle. The surge pricing gets wild, and traffic on Loop 610 barely moves.
- If you rent a car, stay further out in Pearland or Sugar Land to save cash, but buy your NRG Park parking pass months in advance.
- Check the clear bag policy before you leave your hotel. You do not want to walk back in 95-degree heat.
