What Your Ticket Actually Covers

Fans often arrive thinking the ticket price covers more than it does. Here is the honest breakdown of what is in the box and what you still need to budget for separately.

Included with your ticket

  • • One reserved seat in your category
  • • Stadium entry from gate opening
  • • Access to all concourses, water fountains and toilets
  • • Digital match programme via the FIFA app
  • • Free public transit on match day in most US and Canadian host cities

+ Budget separately

  • • Travel to the host city (flights, trains)
  • • Hotel or rental (book early, rates spike close to matches)
  • • Food and drink inside the stadium (cards accepted, alcohol policy varies)
  • • On-site parking, typically $30 to $80; public transit is faster
  • • Official merchandise (stadium shops + FIFA online store)

When Tickets Actually Go on Sale

FIFA splits the rollout into four phases and keeps doing it this way because it spreads demand. Apply in every phase you can. Multiple applications do not reduce your odds and FIFA only confirms what you have been approved for.

1

The Ballot (Lottery)

~12 months before kickoff

Free to enter. You apply for the matches you want; if more fans apply than there are seats, FIFA draws random winners. Open to anyone in the world.

2

First-Come, First-Served

~8 months before kickoff

Leftover ballot inventory plus newly released seats sold in real time. Expect a virtual queue. The most popular matches sell out within minutes.

3

Second Random Draw

~5 months before kickoff

Another ballot covering matches that still have inventory. Better odds than phase 1 because demand has thinned, especially for non-marquee group games.

4

Last-Minute Releases

Final 8 weeks

Corporate hospitality returns, team allocations not taken up and last-second drops appear on the portal. This is your best shot at popular matches if you missed earlier phases.

Resale, Transfers, and What Counts as Scalping

If your plans change after you have already bought a ticket, you have one legal path. FIFA's official resale platform opens roughly 3 months before the tournament starts. You list your ticket, FIFA finds a buyer at face value, takes a small admin fee (around 10% in past tournaments), and transfers the digital ticket. You get refunded after the match completes.

Anything else counts as scalping under FIFA's rules, and the cost of getting caught is bigger than most fans realise. The ticket is digital and linked to your passport at the gate, so a buyer using your name will be refused entry and you lose any future tournament privileges with FIFA's account system.

Not allowed under any circumstances

  • • Selling above face value (classic scalping)
  • • Transferring tickets outside FIFA's platform, even as a gift if money changes hands
  • • Listing on StubHub, eBay, Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, or any other third-party site
  • • "Hiring" someone to attend in your place; passport ID is checked at the gate

If you genuinely cannot use a ticket and FIFA's resale platform is not yet open, the safer move is to wait. Selling unofficially is the single fastest way to lose both your ticket and your money.

Ticket Types

🪑

Individual Match

Single ticket for one specific match. Available in Categories 1 to 4. Most popular option.

🏃

Conditional Supporter

Follow your team through the tournament. If they advance, your next ticket is auto-confirmed. If eliminated, you are refunded.

Accessible Seating

Wheelchair positions and companion seats at all 16 venues. Request during the standard application. Available in all categories.

👑

Hospitality Packages

VIP experience with luxury seating, gourmet catering, lounge access and exclusive pre-match events. From $1,000 per match.

🚨 Protect Yourself from Scams

Only buy tickets from FIFA.com. Everything else is a scam risk.

  • All tickets are digital and linked to your passport. Physical tickets do not exist.
  • FIFA's official resale platform is the ONLY way to legally transfer tickets at face value.
  • Never buy from social media sellers, third-party marketplaces, or unofficial websites.
  • If a deal looks too good to be true, it is. Fake ticket scams are 3x higher than Qatar 2022.
  • Report suspicious ticket sellers to FIFA directly through their official channels.

FIFA Fan Festivals

Every one of the 16 host cities will have a free FIFA Fan Festival with giant screens showing every match live. These are not small side events. At Qatar 2022, the Fan Festival in Doha attracted over 1.8 million visitors across the tournament.
