Inside Every World Cup Venue

Sixteen stadiums, three countries, 1,080,958 total seats. The 2026 World Cup spans some of the newest builds in North America (Los Angeles Stadium opened in 2020 as SoFi Stadium, Toronto Stadium's expanded capacity at BMO Field arrives in 2026) and the oldest cathedral of the sport (Estadio Azteca Mexico City, built in 1966 and now becoming the first venue ever to host matches at three different World Cups). Each stadium has its own personality: retractable roof climate control in Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Vancouver, open-air heat in Seattle and Philadelphia, and altitude challenges in Mexico City (2,250 m above sea level) and Guadalajara (1,500 m) that visiting teams genuinely have to train for.

New York New Jersey Stadium (the venue locals know as MetLife) hosts the Final on July 19, 2026 and is the largest venue at 82,500 seats. Dallas Stadium (80,000) hosts a Semi-Final, Los Angeles Stadium (70,240) hosts a Quarter-Final, and Estadio Azteca Mexico City stages the Opening Match on June 11. Miami Stadium hosts the Third Place play-off on July 18. Most other venues host 4 to 6 group-stage matches each, so if you base yourself near one of them, you can catch two or three different teams without changing hotels.

The matchday experience varies more than you might expect. Los Angeles Stadium has the best concession scene of any US venue and a 75-million-pixel video board the size of a regulation football field. New York New Jersey Stadium has the easiest transit access thanks to NJ Transit's dedicated Meadowlands service from Penn Station. Estadio Azteca Mexico City has the steepest, most vertical seating bowl in the tournament, which makes the noise level under a closed dome feel almost physical. Dallas Stadium has the world's largest retractable roof, and they will close it if Dallas hits 36Β°C+ on matchday (which it almost certainly will several times in June and July).

Each stadium guide below covers the exact location, how to get there by public transport (with realistic times and costs), what the gates and concourse experience is actually like, the bag policy, food and beverage prices, and the full schedule of matches at that venue.
