World Cup 2026 Bracket
Follow the path to glory from the Round of 32 to the Final at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026. 31 knockout matches, 16 venues, 22 days of do-or-die football.
The Road to Glory
Twenty-two days, thirty-one matches, one trophy. The 2026 World Cup knockout phase opens on June 28 with the brand-new Round of 32 and ends at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026. With 48 teams in the field for the first time, this is a longer and more brutal bracket than any tournament before, and one upset in the early rounds can flip the entire half of the draw on its head.
The new format pulls 32 teams into the bracket: the top two from each of the 12 groups plus the eight best third-placed finishers ranked across all groups. That third-place lifeline is why a 1-1-1 group record can still send you through to the knockouts. Once the bracket starts, every game is single-elimination. Tied after 90 minutes? Thirty minutes of extra time. Still level? Penalties.
The bracket runs Round of 32 (June 28 to July 3), Round of 16 (July 4 to 7), Quarter-Finals (July 9 and 11), Semi-Finals (July 14 and 15), the Third Place playoff at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 18, and the Final at MetLife Stadium on July 19. MetLife is the largest venue in the tournament at 82,500 seats and was selected for the Final largely because of its capacity and proximity to JFK and Newark airports. Three quarter-final matches are slated for SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles), AT&T Stadium (Dallas), and Estadio Azteca (Mexico City), the last of which becomes the first venue ever to host matches in three different World Cups.
All match times shown below are Eastern Time (ET). If you are watching from the West Coast, subtract three hours. From Mexico Central (CT), subtract one. From the UK, add five. Between now and June 26 the bracket reads as placeholder team labels (1A, 2A, etc.). Once the group stage closes, those slots fill in automatically with the qualifying nations and the page updates with kickoff times, venues, and head-to-head context for every match.
โกThe bracket will be populated after the group stage concludes on June 26, 2026. All times in Eastern Time (ET).
How Each Knockout Round Works
Round of 32 (June 28 to July 1)
The 32-team knockout round is brand-new for 2026. Under the previous 32-team format, the tournament went straight from the group stage to the Round of 16. Adding a Round of 32 was the trade-off for expanding the field to 48: the top two from each of the 12 groups, plus the eight best third-placed finishers ranked across all groups, gives 32 teams advancing. Sixteen matches play out across four days, four per day, alternating between host stadiums in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Round of 16 (July 3 to 5)
Sixteen teams, eight matches. The Round of 16 fixtures are decided by the bracket pathway: the winner of Match 73 at New York New Jersey Stadium (commercially MetLife Stadium) meets the winner of Match 74 at Miami Stadium (Hard Rock Stadium) in Match 89 back at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 3. Teams that struggled through the group stage now face teams that breezed through, and the margins narrow fast. Travelling away support starts to outnumber the local crowd as fans rebook on shorter notice.
Quarter-Finals (July 9 and 10)
The eight quarter-finalists are spread across four marquee venues: Los Angeles Stadium (SoFi), New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife), Dallas Stadium (AT&T) and Miami Stadium (Hard Rock). The west-coast matches kick off at 16:00 ET, the east-coast at 20:00 ET. Two days of double-headers, then a four-day rest window before the semi-finals. The four winners head into the most physically and tactically demanding stretch of the tournament.
Semi-Finals, Third Place and the Final (July 14 to 19)
The two semi-finals are at Dallas Stadium (July 14) and New York New Jersey Stadium (July 15), both at 20:00 ET. The losing semi-finalists meet at Miami Stadium on July 18 for the Third Place play-off. The Final is on July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium, in front of 82,500 ticket-holders. The 2022 Final between Argentina and France drew an estimated 1.5 billion viewers worldwide, making it the most-watched single sporting event of any year.
