World Cup 2026 Toronto Travel Guide
BMO Field is Canada's football home, 10 minutes by GO Transit from Union Station in the world's most multicultural city
Your World Cup City Guide
I took the UP Express from Pearson Airport to Union Station last time I was in town, and it beats sitting in Gardiner Expressway traffic every single time. If you are reading this World Cup 2026 Toronto travel guide, you probably already know BMO Field is right on the lake. It is a 45,000-seat venue that gets loud, especially when the local fans show up. You can walk there from Liberty Village in about 15 minutes, grabbing a quick pint before kickoff.
Toronto is massive, but the transit system makes it manageable. The TTC streetcars run right to the stadium gates. I always tell friends to skip renting a car. Parking near Exhibition Place on match day is a headache you do not need, and traditional tailgating is not really a thing here. Instead, base yourself downtown and use the streetcars. Remember to check the clear bag policy before you leave your hotel, as security will turn you away at the entrance.
Here is what you need to know for match day:
- Take the 509 Harbourfront streetcar directly from Union Station to the stadium.
- Grab a peameal bacon sandwich at St. Lawrence Market before heading west.
- Book a hotel in the Entertainment District if you want to walk to the best bars after the final whistle.
- Expect to pay around CA$3.30 for a single TTC ride using your contactless card.
- Arrive early, as match day hours usually mean gates open three hours before kickoff.
The energy in this city during a major tournament is hard to beat. Kensington Market turns into a massive street party, and the patios along King West stay packed long after the games end. Plan your trip early, secure a room near a subway line, and get ready for an incredible month of football.
