World Cup 2026 Vancouver: Public Transport Guide
Airport transfers, metro, bus, taxi, and cycling info for Vancouver
Match-Day Transport
I have taken the SkyTrain from YVR to downtown Vancouver more times than I can count, and it beats sitting in highway traffic every single time. If you have tickets for BC Place, you are in luck. This is easily one of the most walkable setups in the entire tournament. You do not need a rental car, and you definitely do not want to pay for downtown parking.
Your World Cup 2026 Vancouver: public transport guide really comes down to one piece of plastic: the Compass Card. Grab one at the airport station for CA$6, load a day pass, and you are set. The Canada Line shoots you straight into the city center in about 26 minutes. From there, it is a quick transfer to the Expo Line.
Here is what you need to know for match day:
- Stadium-Chinatown station sits just a 5-minute walk from the BC Place gates.
- TransLink runs extra trains every 4 to 6 minutes right after the final whistle.
- Walking from hotels in Yaletown or Gastown takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
- BC Place has a retractable roof, so you stay dry even if the famous Pacific Northwest rain shows up.
Since BC Place is downtown, traditional tailgating is not really a thing. Instead, fans pack the pubs in Yaletown and Gastown before walking over. Make your dinner reservations early, as places fill up fast. After the game, skip the rideshare apps. Surge pricing gets ridiculous, and the streets around the stadium turn into a parking lot. Just walk a few blocks into Yaletown for a post-match beer, or hop back on the SkyTrain. Plan your route early, load your transit card, and enjoy the easiest stadium commute of the tournament.

Bus and Tram

TransLink Bus Network
TransLink operates over 200 bus routes across Metro Vancouver. The B-Line is the rapid bus network with frequent service on key corridors. The 99 B-Line along Broadway is one of the busiest bus routes in North America. Routes 15, 16, and 17 serve the BC Place area directly. Your Compass Card works on all TransLink buses, SkyTrain, and SeaBus. Buses are useful for reaching Kitsilano, Main Street, Commercial Drive, and other neighbourhoods not on the SkyTrain lines. The TransLink Trip Planner app shows real-time arrivals for every route.
Bus fare is CA$3.15 per ride, same as the rail system. Your Compass Card works on both bus and rail.

SeaBus (North Vancouver Ferry)
The SeaBus is a passenger ferry crossing Burrard Inlet between Waterfront Station in downtown and Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. The crossing takes 12 minutes with departures every 15 minutes (every 30 minutes on weekends). The fare is the same as any TransLink ride, CA$3.15 with Compass Card or contactless tap. From Lonsdale Quay, you can reach Grouse Mountain, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and North Vancouver attractions. The harbour views of the city skyline and North Shore mountains from the SeaBus are spectacular. On match days, take the SeaBus to Waterfront Station, then SkyTrain Expo Line to Stadium-Chinatown (2 stops). One fare covers the transfer within 90 minutes.
Cycling and Walking
Bike Share
Mobi by Shaw Go has 200+ bike share stations across downtown Vancouver, Kitsilano, and UBC. A day pass costs CA$14.50 with unlimited 30-minute rides, and a single ride is CA$2.50 to unlock plus CA$0.08 per minute. The Stanley Park Seawall loop is a 10 km ride with mountain and ocean views. The Seaside Greenway runs along False Creek from Science World to Kitsilano Beach, passing directly by BC Place. Dedicated bike lanes run along the entire seawall and through downtown. Vancouver has some of the best cycling infrastructure of any Canadian host city.
Walking
BC Place is in the heart of downtown Vancouver, walkable from almost every downtown neighbourhood. From Yaletown, it is a 5 to 10 minute walk. From Gastown, 10 to 15 minutes through Chinatown. From the West End, 15 to 20 minutes. The False Creek seawall path is the most scenic walking route, running along the waterfront with views of the mountains and city skyline. Granville Island is a 20-minute walk from BC Place along the seawall. Vancouver is one of the most walkable cities in Canada, with a flat downtown core and waterfront paths that connect every major neighbourhood.
