World Cup 2026 Monterrey: Things to Do
28 attractions, 16 free options, and 3 ready-made itineraries for Monterrey
Beyond the Match
Monterrey hits different when you step out of the airport into that dry heat. The Sierra Madre mountains dominate the skyline, wrapping around the city like a fortress. If you are heading here for the tournament, finding World Cup 2026 Monterrey things to do is easy because the city is built for massive crowds. I remember taking Metrorrey Line 1 down to Parque Fundidora. It is a massive 120-hectare former steel mill turned public park, and it hosts the main fan zone. You can literally walk from the blast furnaces to the Paseo Santa Lucia riverboat in ten minutes.
- Ride the Paseo Santa Lucia riverboat at sunset for $60 MXN.
- Take Metrorrey Line 1 to Exposicion station for a 10-minute walk to Estadio BBVA.
- Check match day hours for the fan festival, as they shift based on kickoff times.
- Hike the lower trails of Cerro de la Silla early in the morning to beat the 95-degree summer heat.
Match days here are loud. Rayados fans treat football like religion, and that energy will absolutely spill over into the World Cup. You will want to secure your dinner reservations in San Pedro Garza GarcΓa at least a week ahead, especially on game nights. Forget about tailgating at the stadium. Traffic near Estadio BBVA gets gridlocked hours before kickoff, so stick to the metro or walk if you book a hotel in the Centro district. Grab your tickets, pack light, and get ready for serious heat.

Suggested Itineraries
Planning your days in Monterrey requires factoring in the heat and the crowds. You cannot just wing it when 40,000 fans are descending on the city. We built these itineraries to help you maximize your time without burning out before kickoff.
- Spend your morning at the MARCO museum when the air conditioning is strongest.
- Take the Paseo Santa Lucia riverboat ($60 MXN) right into Parque Fundidora.
- Check the specific match day hours for the fan festival so you do not arrive too early.
Tailgating is not really a massive part of the culture at Estadio BBVA, so spend your pre-game time at the fan zone instead. Grab some local street food, soak in the atmosphere, and then jump on Metrorrey Line 1 to Exposicion station. It is a quick 10-minute walk to the stadium gates from there.
