World Cup 2026 Kansas City: Public Transport Guide
Airport transfers, metro, bus, taxi, and cycling info for Kansas City
Match-Day Transport
Moving through the heartland for the tournament requires a solid game plan, which is exactly why we put together this World Cup 2026 Kansas City: public transport guide. Unlike some host cities with massive subway networks, Kansas City relies heavily on a mix of rideshare, buses, and the free downtown streetcar. If you fly into Kansas City International Airport (MCI), you will quickly realize there is no direct rail link connecting the terminal and downtown. You will need to grab an Uber or Lyft for the 30-kilometer ride, which usually runs around $45.
Once you settle downtown, getting around the core neighborhoods is easy. The KC Streetcar is completely free and connects River Market, the Power & Light District, and Union Station. It is perfect for exploring local BBQ joints or hitting the Fan Fest. However, getting to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is a different story. The Truman Sports Complex sits 15 kilometers southeast of downtown, and absolutely no rail service goes there.
Keep these transit tips in mind for match day:
- Book your rideshare to Arrowhead at least three hours before kickoff to avoid massive surge pricing.
- If you rent a car, arrive early to experience Kansas City's legendary tailgating culture in the parking lots.
- Download the RideKC app to easily pay the $1.50 fare for local bus routes serving Westport and the Country Club Plaza.
- Remember that Arrowhead is an open-air stadium, so prepare for intense summer heat while waiting for your post-match ride.
- Check the official clear bag policy before you board your transport to the stadium.
Plan your routes early, lock in your rideshares, and get ready to experience one of the loudest stadiums in the world.

A single ride costs $1.50 and you can pay with the RideKC app. KCATA buses do not run to Arrowhead Stadium on regular schedules.

RideKC Bike has stations across downtown Kansas City. A single ride costs $1 to unlock plus $0.20 per minute. The Trolley Trail and Indian Creek Trail offer scenic cycling routes. Downtown is bikeable for short trips, but Kansas City summer heat of 32 to 36C limits cycling to early morning before 9 AM or evening after 7 PM. Bird and Lime scooters are also available throughout downtown.

The Power and Light District is the walkable heart of downtown Kansas City, with restaurants, bars, and entertainment all within a few blocks. The Crossroads Arts District (south of downtown) and the River Market (north) are both within 15 minutes on foot. Country Club Plaza is about 4km south of downtown, a pleasant walk in cooler weather. WARNING: Kansas City summer temperatures reach 32 to 36C with humidity. Walk early morning or evening. Carry water at all times. Arrowhead Stadium is NOT walkable from downtown.
