Beyond the Match

Take a day trip to the town of Tequila for distillery tours starting at 350 MXN. It takes about an hour by bus, and the 50 MXN ticket is worth every penny. The agave fields look incredible in the morning light, and the tastings at Mundo Cuervo are top-tier.

Back in the city, the Hospicio CabaΓ±as is a must-see. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with massive murals by Jose Clemente Orozco. You have to lie on your back to really appreciate the Man of Fire mural in the central dome.

  • Catch the early bus from the old terminal to beat the Tequila crowds.
  • Bring 50 MXN in cash for the local transit.
  • Visit the Hospicio CabaΓ±as right when it opens at 10 AM.
  • Grab lunch in the Providencia neighborhood afterward for some of the best food in the city.

If you want to see something completely different, drive an hour out to the Guachimontones pyramids. They are circular ruins you won't find anywhere else in Mexico. Just remember to check the Estadio Akron bag policy before you head to your match later that evening.

Use the filters to find what suits you, or pick one of our pre-planned itineraries for a ready-made day in Guadalajara.

Suggested Itineraries

Stringing together the perfect trip requires a solid game plan. I built these itineraries based on how long it actually takes to get across town on the Mi Macro PerifΓ©rico. If you only have 48 hours, stick to the Centro HistΓ³rico and the FIFA Fan Festival at Plaza Liberacion. You can walk between the Cathedral and the main screens in under ten minutes.

For fans staying four days or more, dedicate a full afternoon to Tlaquepaque. The artisan workshops along Calle Independencia sell incredible ceramics, and you can grab a michelada at El Parian when your feet need a break. You will also want to experience the tailgating energy near the stadium before kickoff.

Follow these pacing rules for your trip:

  • Group your downtown sightseeing into a single morning.
  • Plan your Estadio Akron travel for the late afternoon to catch the pre-match atmosphere.
  • Leave a buffer day for recovering from late-night celebrations in Chapultepec.
  • Buy a Mi Movilidad card at any station to skip the ticket lines.
